Serving Whitman County since 1877

LaCrosse, Tekoa, Pullman receive .09 funding support

LaCrosse, Tekoa and Pullman will all receive money toward projects that were awarded by Whitman County commissioners Monday, May 6.

The funding is the 2013 Public Facilities money from the .09 of one percent of sales tax that is sent to the county from the state. The funds must be used to promote economic development along with creating or maintaining jobs.

The LaCrosse branch of the Whitman County Rural Library will be able to continue with renovations along with a medical office and business center. The project will receive $28,000 awarded.

The project is linked to the LaCrosse Community Pride project which restored the former LaCrosse Market building. A new market opened in the building earlier this year.

The city of Tekoa was awarded $20,700 to continue the old city shop renovation. The shop is being used by Melton Fabricators.

Pullman and Washington State University were awarded $51,300 to install a sanitary sewer line.

The next round of proposals for this funding will be in January 2014.
