Downtown snow on Tekoa agenda

Tekoa city officals are considering a snow removal proposal to make a more uniform process downtown in the winter.

“The problem is, oftentimes snow is removed from just your building, then you’re walking across the front of a building someone in Seattle owns,” said Mayor John Jaeger. “Then there’s ice and it becomes half-dangerous.”

Jaeger said he has discussed an idea with Tekoa citizens. Tekoa’s two city maintenance employees are otherwise engaged when snow hits.

“When there’s snow, they’re out there plowing roads,” said Jaeger. “They can’t do both.”

The mayor went on to say that often volunteers clear snow from in front of local buildings, but not every time. If the city decides to go forward with something like this, Jaeger suggested it would likely have to go out for bid.

.“Whatever we do, we’d like to be ready before the snow hits.”
