STD cases increasing in Whitman County

Whitman County Health Department nurse Debbie Walker-Labine told the county commissioners last month that sexually transmitted diseases were spreading, particularly on the Washington State University campus.

“We can’t figure it out,” she said. “There’s no big source.”

Labine said the growth of gonorrhea seems to have peaked now.

Labine said the health department handed out more than 1,400 condoms at a WSU health fair in February.

“We gave them to everyone,” she said. “Because of all these STDs, people need to be aware. We want to get the information out, what is happening and don’t be fooled.”...
