New banner designs wanted

Colfax Arts Council is calling for regional artists to start thinking of designs for the 2013 H’Art of the Palouse banner contest, according to Bill Reynolds, CAC president.

The entry deadline for this year’s contest is Feb. 8.

This is the sixth year for the banner contest.

Artists of all ages and skill levels are asked to submit a 7 1/2 x 15 inch color design on 11x17 paper. This scale can be blown up to fit a full sized banner.

Designs will be judged by a panel of artists and city officials, and the winners will be announced Feb. 11. The theme is “The Palouse Country,” and can include anything that exemplifies the Palouse - birds, animals, flowers, historic subjects, present innovations, local events like the fair, and institutions like WSU. The field is open to any style from representational to abstract.

The People’s Choice awards go to a youth and an adult. The award includes cash donations from the Arts Council and from local residents and gifts of all sorts.

“The banner contest has really been embraced by the community. We look forward to seeing what folks come up with this year,” Reynolds said.
