Make It With Wool contest

The District 7 Make It With Wool Contest, coordinated by Helen Appel of Dusty, was at the Public Service Building in Colfax. Assisting with the contest this year was Paula Baldree of Colfax.

Entering the contest this year were Carmen, Leah and Jill Swannack, Lamont; Marika McCue, Lamont; Sarah and Sidney Appel, Colfax; Shelby Forgey, Anatone; Michaela Nordheim, Walla Walla; Virginia Monk, Moscow; Danny Butler, Walla Walla, and Elly Kunkel, Pullman.

Jill Swannack placed first in the Make It For Others Contest with a crocheted blue and white color sweater she made for family friend Marika McCue.

Sidney Appel, wearing her black and mauve plaid jumper and Shelby Forgey, sporting her ruffle front green and blue plaid jacket, tied for first place in the Pre-Teen Division. Honorable Mention in the Pre-Teen category went to Virginia Monk, wearing a purple A-line dress with cowboy boot appliqued pockets and Elly Kunkel, wearing a teal plaid skirt.

In the Junior Division, Sarah Appel and Danny Butler tied. Sarah wore a striking red dress with coordinating black shawl, and Danny wore a three-piece brown suit. Both qualified to represent the district at the state Make It with Wool Contest that was in conjunction with the Washington State Sheep Producers Convention in late October.

Danny placed first in the junior division and will represent the state in the national Make It With Wool Contest. Sarah placed third in the state competition. Receiving honorable mention in the junior division were Carmen and Leah Swannack. Carmen wore a coordinating green and burnt orange skirt and vest ensemble and Leah wore a blue plaid knee length skirt.

First place in the Senior Division was Michaela Nordheim, wearing a tailored dress with matching mauve plaid jacket. Michaela also participated in the Senior Division at the state Make It with Wool Contest.

First Place in the adult division was Jill Swannack with a brown western style skirt with coordinating crocheted green shawl sweater. She also participated in the state Make It With Wool Contest.

Judges were Dr. Carol Salusso and graduate students Verna Weng and Corrine Tsai from the WSU Department of apparel, merchandising, design and textiles.
