Haunted Palouse body count totals 3,073

The 11th annual Haunted Palouse completed its two-weekend run Saturday and organizers report attendance at 3,073.

Gate numbers were down this year from 2011’s record 4,251 and 2010’s 3,463.

“We are still very happy with the turnout,” said Haunted Palouse volunteer Janet Barstow. “Mother Nature put a damper on attendance but held off the heaviest rains until later in the evening.”

Proceeds from sales of the $15 tickets have yet to be tallied. They will be distributed as follows: 35 percent to Palouse Community Center, 25 percent between the Palouse Arts Council and Little Sprouts Daycare, 25 percent between Lions Club, Garfield-Palouse Athletic Club and Viking Crew, 10 percent to Chamber of Commerce and five percent to the Roy Chatters Printing Museum.

Last year’s net proceeds were $56,621.

“Haunted Palouse supports entities that benefit everyone in Palouse, and we hope more people will join our ranks in one form or another,” added Barstow.

On Sunday morning, beginning at 9 a.m., volunteers started the takedown and cleanup, which was finished by 5 p.m. WSU Sigma Ki members helped, and Palouse Tavern provided spaghetti in the community center for the cleanup crews.

“We appreciate the support we get from Palouse in the form of donations of food or snacks for our workers,” said Barstow. “You don’t have to build or act to support Haunted Palouse.”
