Fire ban to start at county parks

Tim Myers, director for Whitman County Parks Department, reports fire restrictions will be in effect as of Friday, Aug. 3, at Kamiak Butte and Klemgard County Parks and along the Bill Chipman Palouse Trail.

Restrictions for Klemgard Park, Kamiak Butte and the Chipman Trail include no campfires and no smoking on trails.

Fire restrictions have been in effect at Wawawai County Park since June 10 under Whitman County Fire District 14 guidelines. This restriction remains in effect.

Cooking with charcoal briquettes or a gas grill is still allowed. However, all park visitors need to be prepared and always keep a bucket of water and shovel nearby.
