Mrkela sentenced to 90 days

Rade Mrkela, 24, Pullman, was sentenced to 90 days in jail Friday after pleading guilty to reduced charges of third degree assault. Mrkela was originally charged last August with third degree child rape involving a 15-year-old girl. He was also initially charged with delivering a controlled substance.

Mrkela’s attorney, John P. Stine of Spokane, told the court Mrkela immigrated here from Serbia with his family as a youngster and the charges against him could have led to deportation.

Mrkela was credited for 22 days already served in jail before being allowed pre-trial release. He was ordered to pay $800 in fines and fees and to undergo a year of community supervision after release from jail. He was also ordered to undergo a drug evaluation.
