County receives grant for waste

Whitman County has been awarded nearly $400,000 in grant funding from the state Department of Ecology for solid waste operations.

Ecology officials announced nearly $19 million in grant funding to 95 local government entities.

Whitman County’s public works department was awarded more than $250,000 to upgrade its recycling center at the waste transfer station and landfill on Carrothers Road between Colfax and Pullman.

The county’s health department received more than $100,000 to ramp up inspections and investigations of solid waste issues reported throughout the county.
