Supt. Morgan to nominate Marsh for Colfax principal

Buck Marsh, assistant principal and athletic director at Bridgeport, will be recommended as the new principal for Colfax High School at the next board meeting, May 14.

Marsh was one of two finalists named at the April 23 board meeting.

“After interviews and site visits, we feel Mr. Marsh will be the best fit for our students, parents and staff,” Supt. Michael Morgan said in his report. He added the selection committee believes Marsh brings a wealth of knowledge of successful programs and has very high expectations.

The other finalist for the job was Jeff Pietila, principal at Wahluke since 2007. Marsh, Pietila, and Brett Simpson, principal at Curlew, were invited to a public session April 19 in Colfax, and four days later Supt. Morgan announced the finalist list had been pared to two.

Marsh, 39, was among 19 candidates selected for initial review after the district began its search to fill the principal’s position vacated by the resignation of principal Gary Weitz.

Marsh has been at Bridgeport for the past two years after serving as principal at St. Paul’s Cathedral School in Yakima. He previously taught at East Valley. He and his wife have four children ranging in age from 2 to 8 years of age.

A graduate of Davis High in Yakima, Marsh earned an undergraduate degree in chemistry at Central Washington University, worked for chemical companies and then earned a masters degree at the University of Oregon.
