Pair injured in fairgrounds crash

Two Yakima residents were injured Sunday morning in a collision involving a Toyota Corolla and a Chevrolet Tahoe at the intersection of Highway 26 and the Colfax airport road across from the Palouse Empire Fairground.

Erica Moreno, 20, driver of the Corolla was taken by Medstar helicopter to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane where she was reported in critical condition with head and neck injuries Sunday.

Ernesto Lopez, 22, a passenger in the Corolla was taken by ambulance to Whitman Hospital where he was treated and released.

According to the Washington State Patrol report, Moreno was driving the Corolla northbound and pulled onto Highway 26 in the path of the eastbound 2006 Tahoe which was driven by Robert H. Squires, 55, Hood River, Ore.

Squires, who was towing a travel trailer behind the Tahoe, was not injured.
