SJE's Caleb Rich plans Aussie entry

Caleb Rich, a junior at St. John-Endicott High School who competes in track and cross country under Coach Andrea Miller, has been selected from 300 athletes across the United States to compete in the Down Under International Games next summer.

The games will be in Australia’s Gold Coast area June 24 to July 3, 2012. Rich will represent Washington State Cross Country on the National West Central Conference Team.

Rich was the lead runner for the SJE boys in XC last fall and finished 92nd in the state all B boys race at Pasco with a time of 19:33.

He is now working on fundraising projects to finance the cost of the trip which will be in the range of $4,000.

He moved to St. John when he was in the eighth grade and has taken part in XC and track since his freshman year. During track season Rich competes in the 400 meter run and came within one place of qualifying for the state meet last year as a sophomore.

The SJELW track squad plans to start their season Saturday with a trip to the Lapwai Invitational Saturday.
