Wildcat girls dominate at SE halfway mark

Colton’s undefeated Wildcats appear to be closing the door on the rest of the SE 1B league which starts second round play this week. Colton blasted past Rosalia’s undefeated team in a league showdown Friday and the SJE Eagles Saturday, both by the hefty margins which have been the Wildcat mode for the campaign to date.

Monday, Colton’s girls booked their third big-margin win in four days with a 78-32 crunch over Lapwai, a team which has been atop the Idaho polls in their division for most of the season. Lapwai, undefeated in league play, arrived a Colton with an 8-5 record.

Now 11-0 overall, Colton will start the next round of SE league action at Palouse Friday and then host Pomeroy on Saturday.

Rosalia, which had to fight off the GP Vikings on their home court in the Saturday round, sustained a close loss to Lind/Ritzville/Sprague in a Tuesday non-leaguer on the Broncos’ court.

In the first-place decider Friday night, Colton rolled out a 40-13 halftime score on the way to a 72-27 win for the top SE slot. Colton’s dominating defense allowed the Spartans just 17 point over the first three quarters.

Haley Moser led a balanced attack with 15 points. In addition to the tough defense, Colton hit eight three-point shots with Erin Weber pegging three of them.

Briann Maley led the Spartans with 10, including two shots from the 3-point range.

Colton Saturday hosted SJE to a 63-23 toasting for the other half of the Wildcats’ league weekend at home. The Eagles had just 11 points after two quarters and trailed by 31 points.

Haley Moser again topped the Wildcats attack with 13.

Rosalia returned to their home boards Saturday and booked a 61-40 win over the visiting GP Vikings, now fourth in the crowded middle ranks of the league race.

Maley hit a game high 23, and Kaycie Adair hit 16, including nine buckets off the toss line, to lead the Vikingts.

In other league action Saturday Tekoa/Oakesdale defeated LaCrosse/Washtucna 58-27 to move into third place with a 4-2 record.

Pomeroy defeated Touchet 54-21.
