Driver hurt in dump truck roll

Kyle D. Phillips, 21, Clarkston construction worker, was flown by MedStar to Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane after he was injured in a rock pit accident near Malden Monday morning. According to a report from the sheriff’s office, Phillips was operating a large Caterpillar pit dump truck when he backed over the edge of a gravel stockpile. The truck rolled over backwards down a 20-foot slope and landed on its top.

Phillips was employed with DeAtley Crushing which is now operating at the Van Dyke gravel pit. Additional investigation on the industrial accident will be done by the federal Mining Safety and Health Administration.
