Gilbert Ward Pierce to District Court

Gilbert Ward Pierce has been charged with negligent driving after investigation reports have been received in a case which started with his arrest at the June 18 sprint boat races at St. John. Pierce, 60, was arrested and jailed on probable charges of vehicular assault. He was released on his own recognizance and formal charges were never filed in superior court.

The officer’s arrest report alleged Pierce had struck a three-year-old boy with a golf cart while attempting to leave the races.

Prosecutor Denis Tracy said Sept. 22 investigation reports showed the youngster, who was taken by ambulance to Spokane, did not sustain serious injuries after being hit by the golf cart. Also, the alcohol content tests on a blood sample drawn from Pierce showed a level of .04 percent which is half of the percentage required for a legal determination of intoxication.
