Garfield/Palouse FFA installs officers, honors award winners

Garfield-Palouse FFA June 6 wrapped up another year at their annual awards banquet. They honored over 30 members who took part in over 23 events and competitions.

Freshmen receiving their greenhand degrees were Ariel Hoffman, Jesse Lopez, Katryna Newman, Matt Dymkoski, Sammi Johnson, Taylor Redman and Zack Kuehner. Star Greenhand went to Chandler Pfaff.

Chapter degree recipients were Cassie Thompson, Hannah Neibergs, Holly Leendersten, Wyatt Mitchell. Star chapter farmer was Laura Anderson.

Members who competed at the 2011 Washington State FFA Convention were recognized. Prepared Public Speaker Laura Anderson took first place for her speech on Wolf Management issues. Chad Redman was awarded for his efforts in the Extemporaneous Public Speaking division. Ben Weagraff received an award for performing as Gar-Pal’s lone participant in talent. J.B. Lange took fifth high individual in the Agricultural Management competition.

Adrienne Hamilton, Derrick Bosch, Emily Akin, Heidi Jamison, Jon Kuehner, Mickaila Martin, Missy Johnson and Sarah Bofenkamp were awarded with state degrees.

To finish the night, outgoing officers J.B. Lange, Chad Redman, Blake Slocum, Tiona Shea, Kristin Nelson and Ben Weagraff handed down their titles to the incoming officers Heidi Jamison, president; Emily Akin, vice president; Cassie Thompson, secretary; Jon Kuehner, treasurer; Sarah Bofenkamp, reporter; and Derrick Bosch, sentinel.
