Cemetery rite honors veterans at Colfax

The Memorial Day veterans’ observance at the Colfax cemetery Monday paid tribute to the sacrifices made by veterans over the years.

At left, FFA members Ben and Maggie Cochran and Advisor Brian Long raise the colors.

At right Archie Magon (top), former long-time Colfax resident now of Spokane, told spectators (middle) how local veterans collected 14 flags for the first posting of flags in 1990.

FFA members this year posted 230 flags which have been donated by the families of deceased veterans.

Magon also credited the Colfax FFA for taking over the posting of the flags and conducting the ceremony.

The posting of the flags was initiated with the Colfax VFW chapter which has since been deactivated with members now registered at Dayton.

Many of the VFW members remain active in the American Legion.

At lower right, veterans who were invited to honor seats facing the crowd, saluted the flag near the end of the ceremony.

Other FFA members participating in the ceremony were Kyle Largent, who was emcee, Hannah Knaack and Reagan Lowe.

Craig Willson sang and played Taps.
