Valentine dance benefits inventory at SJ food bank

Area residents were treated to a Valentine’s music and dance exhibition Sunday, Feb. 13, at the St. John Community Building. Contributing to the festivities were Harry Davis on the saxophone, Gene Mattoon and Dorothy McBride playing the keyboard, and Bob McBride and Cathy Ulrich singing classic tunes. They entertained with old favorites, sentimental toe-tappers and historical backgrounds on a number of the songs.

Helping at the recent food drive Valentine event in St. John were, in back, Colette Buck, Sabrina Webb, Charleen Porter, Caeli Ulrich, Grace Larsen and Gage Stein. In front are Olivia Larsen, Chloe Bammes, Rachel Larsen, Chelsea Bammes and Julian Prusch.

The building was decked out in red, white and pink balloons as well as hearts, with refreshments served throughout the event. A prize was awarded to the best dancer and names were drawn at intervals for door prizes.

Special guests included residents of Paul’s Place in Colfax and Harvest House in Pullman. Transportation was provided by the COAST van.

The event was organized by Gene and Betty Mattoon with admission being an item or two for the St. John Food Bank. which received a boost of new inventory.

Assisting the Mattoons with decorations, event management and clean-up were a number of local youngsters.

St. John-Endicott High School students recently collected more than 500 pounds of food in their own drive for the local food bank.
