A big Reardan team, primed to take a league win over a rebuilding Bulldog team, showed no mercy in Tuesday night’s league round with a 51-32 win over the Bulldog girls on their home court. The Indians were led by 18 points from Kelsey Moos who hit seven shots from the field.
“They just moved out to a big league, and we couldn’t get it back,” Coach Corey Baerlocher noted.
The hosts moved out to a 15-4 lead in the first quarter and posted a 25-13 edge at the half.
Reardan out-boarded Colfax 37-28, and the Bulldogs shot 12 for 39 from the field.
“Those aren’t the kind of numbers you’re going to have to put up to get a win,” Baerlocher commented.
The league loss at Reardan went in the book after the Bulldog girls booked a 0-2 run in the SunDome shootout last Wednesday and Thursday at Yakima.
Zillah, a valley neighborhood team which has battled Colfax in the A division in the past, booked a 50-48 win the first night after taking a big lead, fighting off a Colfax comeback and hitting a zinger for the final score.
Zillah dropped Colfax 20-7 in the first quarter and had a 36-20 lead at the half. The Z team shot 70 percent in the first half.
Colfax changed their defense to a zone at the break and knocked 10 points off the Z lead in the third quarter. The Bulldogs actually cracked a lead in the last 48 seconds, but Zillah managed to pull it out.
Shaina Simonson hit 12 points and pulled down seven boards to lead Colfax.
On the second night at the Dome, Colfax paired off with LaSalle of Union Gap, the foe from last year’s 2B title game at Spokane.
Colfax battled LaSalle in the first quarter, but the Lightning pulled away for a 48-21 win.
Colfax shooting went off for the balance of the game and they finished with under 18 percent from the field.
Laureen Degooyer, now a senior, hit 15 for the Lightning.
