Cook named El Katif Shriner of the Year

El Katif Shrine Potentate Von Chimienti, presented Noble Duane Cook, pictured at right, with the Shriner of the Year award.

Each year this award is given to one of more than 1,000 El Katif Shriners in honor of outstanding service to the organization.

Cook was born and raised in Whitman County and attended schools in St. John, Winona and Endicott.

He is a past master of Chewelah Lodge 134, a member and past president of Northeast Washington Shrine Club in Colville, a member and past president of Spokane Valley Shrine Club and the president of the Director’s Staff.

In 2010, he chaired the food booth at Spokane Interstate Fair and duck race sales which go to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Spokane.

Duane has served on the Board of Governors for the Shriners Hospital for Children for four years.

He also works in the Shriners office, works at the circus, takes the calliope to parades and is always willing to work for the kids.

He also received this award in 2008.
