STRANGE BUT TRUE - Oct. 28, 2010

* It was American author, producer, screenwriter and director Michael Crichton who made the following sage observation: “Whenever you hear the consensus of scientists agrees on something or other, reach for your wallet, because you’re being had.”

* Statistics show that more babies are born in September than in any other month of the year.

* Talk about bad luck: In May of 2009, two thieves broke into a jewelry store in Milwaukee, bagged up their loot and tried to make their getaway. On the way out of the looted store, they were confronted by two more thieves, who took the ill-gotten gains. No one ended up profiting from the crime, however; all four were arrested.

* According to an estimate by the United Nations, there are more than 3 million shipwrecks on the ocean floor.

* If you’re not the sort of person who makes the bed every day, here’s some good news for you: Researchers in the United Kingdom have found that unmade beds are less likely to harbor dust mites, a common cause of asthma and allergic symptoms.

Thought for the Day: “If you would be a real seeker after truth, it is necessary that at least once in your life you doubt, as far as possible, all things.” — Rene Descartes
