Hydrant issue douses Lamont in controversy

Firefighters from Whitman County Rural Fire District No. 5 hooked up to hydrants in Lamont last Tuesday, Oct. 5, for their first ever training on the town’s water supply system.

The training session was significant because use of Lamont’s hydrants had been at the center of a burgeoning rift between the fire district and the town council.

The rift brought an overflow crowd of concerned Lamonters - many wearing buttons in support of the fire district - to the town council meeting last Monday, Oct. 4.
