Bulldogs tally 13 XC runners

Colfax Cross Country Coach Jamie Kinley reports she has 13 runners out for the season with eight high school runners and five junior high runners.

The high school group will be led by Morgan Willson, winner of the state all-B girls run at Sun Willows in the state race at Pasco last November. Willson, who brought home the first Colfax win at the state meet in 20 years, returns to campaign this season as a junior.

She placed first Saturday in a jamboree mud run opener at Northwest Christian. Times were not posted for the warm-up event.

Tim Cornelius of Colfax won the junior high event for the Jennings crew.

Willson last year placed 47 seconds ahead of the pack for the state win after battling with Mikel Elliott of White Swan during the first half of the race. The two collided again in the state B track distance races at Cheney last spring and Elliott, who was wrapping up her senior season, prevailed in the shorter distance events.

Kyle Largent and Cody Wuestney, who ran in the state boys race last year at Pasco, have returned to the team as seniors. Largent placed 75th at state last year and Wuestney placed 86th.

Joel Morgan, a senior, and Brock Morgan and Brady Cornelius, juniors., are back on the team.

Katie Largent and Jackson Elfers, members of the junior high team last year, are now on the high school team as freshmen this year.

First league race of the season will be next Tuesday, Sept. 14, at Reardan. Colfax will host a league race the following week, Sept. 21.

Coach Kinley said the Colfax course will be out along the Colfax Trail next to the Palouse River.
