Lena Cox marks 96th birthday

Lena Cox celebrated her 96th birthday with lunch at the Davenport Hotel Sept. 6. She was accompanied by Durand and Roberta Cox.

Plans for an evening out on Oct. 2 including dinner, drinks and entertainment with comedian Leif Skyvig have been finalized. The Community Pride grocery store committee will serve barbecued pork loin with fresh applesauce, rolls, roasted red potatoes, salad and dessert. Happy hour will begin at 6 p.m. with snacks provided. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. with the show beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at the Bank of Whitman or from any board member. Tickets are $25 per person which includes one beverage, dinner and show.

The LaCrosse Mudfest, originally scheduled for Labor Day, was postponed to Saturday, Oct. 2. The one day event will include mud and dry dirt racing. The cook shack will be on hand providing food for the day. All proceeds will benefit the Richard L. Roberts scholarship fund.

The Tigercat football team will play their first home game of the season in Washtucna Friday where they will go up against Odessa/Harrington at 7 p.m. The volleyball team will participate in a tournament in Walla Walla Saturday, Sept. 11.

Many families with children in FFA and 4H are busily preparing for the Palouse Empire Fair which begins today, Sept. 9. Taylor Weekes, daughter of Seth and Michelle Weekes and Hillary Bennett, daughter of Randy Bennett and Doris Bennett are LaCrosse’s Fair Queen and Princess. They will participate in the county wide competition Friday evening at 6:30 p.m.
