Colfax High musical will be ‘Music Man’

The “Music Man” will be the fall musical for the Colfax High School stage, according to Cary Cammack, director. The production will include a cast made up of high school, junior high and elementary students. Audition dates will be the first week in September, and information on audition will be available during registration at the high school and elementary school.

Performances will begin the week before Thanksgiving, Nov. 18, and continue to Nov. 24.

Heartbreak at Dahmen

Heartbreak Pass of Spokane will play bluegrass music at Dahmen Barn in Uniontown, Aug. 21 beginning at 7:30 p.m. Admission will be $10 at the door. Heartbreak Pass was formed in February 2009.

Chastain grandson born

A boy, Tobius Kenneth Jerry Thomas, was born May 25, 2010, to Tyler and Rachel (Chastain) Thomas of Astoria, Ore. Maternal grandparents are Jerry and Mary Chastain, LaCrosse. Paternal grandparents are Marcia Thomas, Virginia, and the late Kenneth Thomas. Weighing six pounds, seven ounces at birth, Toby is the couple’s first child.

Wells daughter born

A girl, Jayden Rae, was born July 21, 2010, at eight pounds, 10 ounces, at Pullman Regional Hospital, to Jason and Krissi Wells of Colfax. Paternal grandparents are Jim and Debbie Wells, Colfax. Maternal grandparents are Teri Erickson, Lewiston, and Mike and Leeann Erickson, Filer, Idaho.

Rosauers and manager Shawn McAdams were recognized for their support of Whitman County Library. Rosauers supports Summer Reading each year by carrying the annual theme on their grocery bags. They provide coffee prizes, pumpkins for the decorating contest, treats for children, and help in other ways. They were presented the Library Supporter of the Month award.

All 14 branches of Whitman County Library remain closed through August 8 for maintenance and cleaning. In Colfax, the library staff is preparing to re-open the newly remodeled building Monday, May 9, with a grand re-opening celebration Wednesday, Aug. 11. A dedication ceremony will be at 7 p.m. with all invited.

Parents should plan to bring youngsters to the library for the grand opening celebration starting at 10 a.m. for a number of fun activities including a first look at the amazing Hayden’s Corner rain forest tree, new computers designed especially for children, a clown, face painting by the Colfax Cheerleaders, a visit by the Colfax fire truck, spinning wheel of prizes and Reading Bear.

Colfax library will host a blood drive Aug. 25, from 2 to 6 p.m. Also, at 7 p.m. that same day will be the final Jammie Time children’s program of summer. For a complete list of all library events and programs, visit the online calendar at http://www.whitco.lib.wa.us

Oakesdale library fetes 22 readers

Summer Reading at Oakesdale concluded July 21 with 22 children reading 10 books or being read to for 10 hours. The program wrapped up with a cake, punch, and prizes and goodie bags for the finishers.

During the summer they enjoyed many activities from “Undersea Adventures” where they made their own “aquariums” to “Sidewalk Art. ” They erased their creations with water balloons! Adults and teens still have one more month to complete the adult/teen program.

Those who read three books and complete a short review can return entry forms to the library by Aug. 31 to be entered for a drawing for prizes. In addition, each entrant will be given a certificate for a free “daily special” at The Country Attic in Oakesdale. .

Storytime at the Oakesdale Library will begin again in September and continue every Wednesday at 12:30 beginning Sept. 8.
