Methodist church will offer second free dinner

Colfax United Methodist Church will serve a free dinner July 22 for those looking to socialize and for those in need.

This is the church’s second free dinner for the public. Last month’s dinner went off without a hitch so church members decided to heat up the oven again, said organizer Donna Thompson.

“We’re not trying to get them to come to church. We just want to help people,” Thompson said.

She said a similar ministry in Walla Walla helped out a relative of hers when they ran into financial straits. This got her thinking about what she could do to help out in Colfax.

“It doesn’t have to be a ‘need thing’ necessarily,” she said. “It’s a chance to get together for a free meal.”

Church members will cook up two soups, one a chili, and serve this with salad, garlic bread, and drinks. Brownies with frosting will be one of the desserts, Thompson said.

Last month’s meal was attended by seven people along with church members.

Thompson said the meal offers a chance for the elderly, singles or others looking to socialize. The dinner will be from 6 to 7 p.m. at the church on Mill Street.
