Chapter of University Women honors two Gar/Pal graduates

Two Garfield-Palouse High senior girls were recognized for their outstanding achievements in technology, science and math by the Palouse-Garfield branch of the American Association of University Women.

Schadoe Gamet was chosen for her achievement in technology. She will attend Lewis and Clark State College in the fall.

Rebecca Nelson was chosen for her achievements in science and mathematics. The valedictorian for this year’s Garfield/Palouse class, she will major in special education at Whitworth University in Spokane.

They were honored at the May meeting of the local branch of AAUW, which includes members from Garfield, Palouse, Colfax, Oakesdale, and Tekoa. They were presented with a monetary award and will be recognized at graduation with a certificate of merit.

The scholar recognition program which is available to every school in the state through local AAUW branches, recognizes high school girls for academic achievement in math, science and technology.

In addition to these awards, the Palouse-Garfield branch also supports national AAUW scholarship programs and the Summer Reading Program of the Whitman County branch libraries.
