Rosalia benefit for ALS chapter

Rosalia Performing Arts hall Saturday was host to a concert benefiting the Evergreen ALS chapter which is the charity sponsored by the Grand Chapter of Eastern Star.

Neil Cook, who suffered from ALS was a member of Malden Masonic Lodge and El Katif Shrine. Joel Porter of Rosalia has recently been diagnosed with ALS.

Julie Pittmann, State DAR Chaplain

The Washington State Daughters of the American Revolution conducted their state conference in Tacoma May 20-23. Julie Pittmann of Rosalia was elected State Chaplain for the 2010-2012 term. Pittmann is a member of the Esther Reed Chapter and recently served as their Chapter Regent. State and national committee work included computer website reviews, state literacy and scholarship campaigns along with her chapter’s 2009 Bob Dixon Day observance on Memorial Day in Latah.

With a membership of more than 160,000 women in 50 states and 24 overseas countries, the society honors historic preservation, education and patriotism.

The dedication and opening of the first Washington State Veteran’s Cemetery near Medical Lake will be May 31, at 10:30 a.m. Shuttle service will be available at the Northern Quest Casino in Airway Heights.

The Town of Rosalia May 12 dedicated two new play structures which have been added to the city park. About 75 people attended the event with Mayor Stenhouse officiating at the ribbon cutting. The event was hosted by the Rosalia Lions Club. They served free hot dogs and ice cream. The equipment purchase was the result of a cooperative fundraising effort over the last five years.

Over 1,200 announcements have been sent to all the graduates of Rosalia High School from 1902 to 2010 for an all-school reunion during Battle Days Weekend June 5-6. Invitations are extended to any former Rosalian, any one who attended Rosalia Schools, and to any teacher ever instructing at Rosalia Schools.

Announcements were sent to more than 30 states and several foreign countries.

Each invitation contained a return card indicating whether they would be attending as a count is needed to prepare food and to order a directory containing names and addresses of graduates. Even locals need to return reservation cards. Donations to defray the cost of mailing will be appreciated.

Rosalia School District will sponsor a simplified summer food program for children. Meals will be made available at no charge to children 18 years and younger. Meals will be served June 15-17 and July 6-29, Monday through Thursday, at the Rosalia School District School Cafeteria. Breakfast will be served from 8:30 to 9 a.m. and lunch 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Snacks will be served at the Rosalia swimming pool, 1:15 to 1:30 p.m. Please contact Rosalia School for more information.

Ty Mundt, Gage Merritt and Cody Wilson recently won $3,000 for taking third place in the FFA Imagine Tomorrow WSU contest with their Electric Robot Tractor.
