Memorial Day observance

The annual Colfax VFW Memorial Day ceremony will be at the Colfax cemetery at 10 a.m. May 31. All are welcome. The Colfax FFA will be conducting the ceremony.

Day of Prayer service at Farmington

Upper Columbia Academy Choraliers, directed by Curtis Anderson of Spangle, performed for a National Day of Prayer May 6 at Farmington Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Participating communities were Farmington, Tekoa, Garfield, Oakesdale and Rosalia, A number of local pastors and teachers attended and offered prayer for their respective groups.

Refreshments were served following the service by the members of the Farmington SDA church and community.

Participants included Pastor Hal Whitman, Tekoa Community Church; Pastor James Kilmer, retired pastor of the Farmington Seventh-day Adventist Church; Sam Rapp, member of the Tekoa Community Church; Pastor Dean Walker, Garfield Christian Church and math teacher at Moscow High School; Pastor Kelly Conklin, Garfield Community Church; Pastor Tom Dahl, First Baptist Church, Oakesdale, and Pastor Roger Martin and Larry Schroetlin, Farmington Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Big Red Barn at Dahmen

Big Red Barn Band will travel from Spokane to play at Dahmen Barn in Uniontown Saturday, May 29 beginning at 7:30 p.m. They play a funky blend of bluegrass, blues, country, jazz and other string-band music. Admission will be $8 at the door.

Muzzleloader’s

Palouse Hills Muzzleloader’s Club will have a monthly shoot at their rendezvous site on the Palouse River Sunday, June 6, starting at 10 a.m. A short meeting will follow with plans being finalized for the upcoming yearly rendezvous set for June 25, 26 and 27. Call Judy Roberts in Colfax for more information.

Hospital Auxiliary

The Whitman Hospital Auxiliary will meet Monday, June 7, at 1:30 p.m. in the hospital annex building. Lunch will be in the Harvest Home Cafe at 12:30 p.m. in the hospital lower level.

On Campus

MUSIC

Members of the WSU Solstice Quintet, with special guest pianist Gerald Berthaiume, will present a Summer Concert at 1 p.m. June 5 at the WSU Art Museum. The concert is free of charge and the public is invited to enjoy music and art in an informal setting.

Members of the quintet include Ann Marie Yasinitsky, flute; Keri McCarthy, oboe; Shannon Scott, clarinet; and Ryan Hare, bassoon.

Berthaiume is director of the WSU school of music.

All branches of Whitman County Library will close May 29-31 for Memorial Day weekend. Bookdrops and the website remain available for requesting and returning materials. Author Molly Gloss will visit the Colfax and St. John Libraries in November as part of Everybody Reads. In preparation for this annual event, the library’s collection has obtained multiple copies of her book, The Hearts of Horses. Call today to reserve a copy.

Children’s programs continue each Thursday at the Colfax Library with Baby Time for ages 0-2 years is from 10:10-10:30, Toddler Time for ages 2-3 is from 10:30-11:00 and Preschool Time for ages 4 and up is from 11:00-11:30.

Friday’s Play and Learn runs from 10:00-11:30 for infants, toddlers, young children and those who care for them. For information on these or programs countywide, contact Sheri or Nichole.
