Port sues for dock damages

In a response filed in superior court April 22, Colfax attorney Will Ferguson denied Stephen Bravard’s answer to the port’s negligence suit for damages from a fire last year at Boyer Marina. The response said the port continue its suit for $3,335 in damages alleged to have been caused to a dock at Boyer by a fire which started on a houseboat Bravard had moored to the dock.

The port alleges in its suit Bravard was negligent in the use of electrical heaters which caused the wooden houseboat to catch fire and damage railings, bumpers and electrical fixtures on the dock. The suit contends Bravard in April of last year agreed to do work on the dock and pay a third of the costs of electrical repairs. It said Bravard performed the work as promised but did not pay a third share of the electrical expenses.

The March 5, 2009, fire destroyed the houseboat and a Bayliner cruiser which was moored next to it. Onecho-Wilcox fire volunteers extinguished flames on the boats and towed them to shore to keep them from sinking under the docks.
