Tekoa students to plant more trees along creek

Tekoa students will plant 65 trees and shrubs along the banks of Hangman Creek April 30, beginning at 9 a.m. The annual project has to date added more than 400 trees to the banks of the creek over the past few years.

“The roots are holding up the bank so it doesn’t erode any further,” said Tammy Mendoza, sixth grade teacher at Tekoa.

Tekoa sixth graders, along with parents and some teachers will use trees donated from Plants of the Wild, a business in Tekoa.

Choke cherries, wild rose, tamarack and ponderosa pine are some of the varieties which will be planted.

Volunteers are encouraged to come.
