Breaking:Breaking:Breaking:

Auditor Eunice Coker informed the Gazette late Wednesday morning that her office will send new ballots to voters in the Colfax School District because of an incorrect ballot listing in the school’s levy proposition.

Ballots mailed to voters last week indicated the district is asking for $1,300,000 for 2011 and 2012. The 2012 levy request is actually for $1,350,000.

Coker said elections staff mistakenly entered the $1,300,000 number for the 2012 levy when they were preparing ballots to go to the printer. The resolution submitted by the school district contained the correct figure.

Elections staff is preparing new paper ballots to mail out to voters in the district. Those ballots will contain an explanatory letter from Coker and a postage-paid return envelope. The new ballots will be counted by hand. Original ballots already returned to the auditor are being set aside in sealed containers.
