On last Thursday afternoon about six o’clock, just after the Gazette had gone to press, an alarm of fire was sounded and much to the dismay of our citizens the public school house was found to be doomed to destruction by the fiery elements.

By the time a general alarm was given, it was apparent that the building could not be saved, and such persons as could reach the house in season to do any good devoted their energies to saving the furniture and books.
