GP wins soils contest

Adams County Soils Conservation District hosted the Adams County Land Judging contest Oct. 20. Nearly 200 students from 12 schools traveled to Ritzville to compete in this contest, making up 39 teams. The contest consisted of four pits which were evaluated and classified.

At this contest, the Garfield-Palouse chapter was represented by four different teams. Team One included the members Tiona Shea, Chad Redman, J.B. Lange, Kristin Nelson and Missy Johnson. Out of the 200 students, Redman placed first with a perfect score of 325; Tiona Shea came in second with 321, and J.B. Lange placed fourth with a score of 312.

Garfield-Palouse soils team has completed 75 percent of their goal for the year, which is to win all four of the soils events in the state and remain undefeated for the third consecutive year. Wednesday the teams were scheduled to travel to Valleyford for the state competition. The winner will represent the state at nationals in Oklahoma.
