Auxiliary, the shop is located in the newly opened front entrance area of the hospital.

Auxiliary members, like most hospital staffers, had to cope with the hospital remodeling and at one time were relegated to a basement location.

In the front row, left to right, are: Leona Herman, Sharon Olson, Joyce Bryan, Kathy Davis and Dorla Scholz.

In back, from the left, are Virginia Sanders, Louia Cottrell, Margaret Furry, Shirley Richardson, Dianne Geary, Irma Stueckle, Donna Larson, Joyce Colvin, Arlene Grimes, Vi Hickman, Peggy Rodgers, Mary Richardson, Viv Nafziger and Shirley Simmons.

Other members not pictured are Corrine Liotta, Bonnie Smith, Florence Teitrick, Harriet Mackleit, Helen Cowan, Sharon Huff, Ann Lowe, Cindy Jones and Darlene Kroll.

Bluebird Gift Shop at Whitman Hospital and Medical Center in Colfax opened at their new area Monday, Aug. 17. Operated by volunteers from the Hospital

Now that our main entrance is open, and phase II is winding down I am hearing from patients and visitors that it is much easier finding your way through the hospital. If needed, we also have an information desk right there to help get you where you need to go.

You will notice more privacy during admitting, and a larger waiting area right next to the new Blue Bird Gift Shop.

You may have noticed some beautiful photographs of the Palouse that we have placed in these front areas as well. The remodeled areas of the hospital provide for a larger pharmacy and respiratory therapy department, as well as new offices for our business office staff.

In our new waiting area you will see two areas where hand sanitizers, Kleenex, and masks are available. We provide these items for your protection as well as those around you. Please feel free to make full use of these “stations” as needed.

As I mentioned above, the opening of our main entrance also introduces you to the very nice Bluebird Gift Shop which is located immediately adjacent to the waiting area. The Hospital Auxiliary would like everyone to know they have reopened for business. They have been very patient during construction which has put a big “dent” in their business. A sizable portion of the money they earn is given back to the hospital each year to purchase critical medical equipment to help us care for patients.

We give a heartfelt thank you to the Whitman Hospital Auxiliary for their many, many years of great service to Whitman Hospital and Medical Center.
