Peterson girl born

A daughter, Annabell Marie, was born Aug. 11, 2009, at Whitman Hospital and Medical Center in Colfax, to Calista and Jeremy Peterson. Maternal grandparents are Diane Hartman and Aaron Hartman. Paternal grandparents are Diane and Jerry Peterson. Weighing seven pounds, 14 ounces at birth, the baby joins one sister Emmalynn.

Rosalia calendar deadline

Rosalia residents who want to list information on the annual birthday and anniversary calendar, which is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce as a fund raising activity, can submit listings with Mike Day at the Texaco Staton downtown through Aug. 28. The calendar will be out before the start of 2010.

Hay sculptures, pies on Dahmen agenda

Space and bale reservations for Dahmen Barn’s hay bake sculpture competition, a feature of the Sept. 19 harvest festival, must be made no later than Sept.10. The barn provides up to 10 bales. Sculptures are to be constructed in the field adjacent to highway 195 in Uniontown and must include a weatherproof sign with the entry’s title. Construction may begin Sept. 12 and must be completed by Sept. 18. All embellishment of the bales must be provided by the contestant. Mechanical entries are encouraged, but there is no access to electricity at the site. Awards will be in several categories, including a people’s choice.

The 2009 festival’s pie baking contest will be limited to apple and “apple with a twist” top encourage a special flavoring or another fruit combined with apple. (No cream or custard pies) Two 9 or 10 inch pies must be submitted, and after judging, slices of pie ala mode will be sold as a fund raiser for the art center. Pies may be entered Sept.18 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., or the next morning between 9 and 10 a.m.Contact contest coordinator Julie Hartwig at the Dahmen Barn email to enter.
