    Along with creating recyclable Thanksgiving centerpieces, Judi Gray also teaches life lessons. Gray, Whitman County Recycling coordinator, and partner Andy Boyd, operations manager for Moscow Recycling, helped participants create recyclable Thanksgiving centerpieces at the Colfax Library Tuesday.   • Palouse school board discusses levy numbers

    Next year’s special levy was discussed at the Palouse school board meeting Nov. 15. “Based on the need, I don’t believe we are understaffed,” said Palouse Superintendent Jake Dingman, indicating the levy will mainly be for maintenance, repairs and material costs.     Thanks to what is assumed to be a computer virus that somehow activated 18-month-old emails, Spokane television station KREM reported a pair of twisters appeared in the sky west of St. John Monday. Ken Gehring, whose photograph of two tornadoes in the western sky was used in the TV station’s news broadcast, said he sent the station the tornado picture shortly after he saw them, a year and a half ago.   • Palouse Cares plans area food drive

    In less than two weeks, hundreds of volunteers will gather in Colfax, Moscow, Pullman, Potlatch, Palouse, Deary, Bovill and Genesee with the goal of collecting tens of thousands of pounds of food. The one-day food drive requires volunteer effort from organizations to collect the food door-to-door. Residents can volunteer to go door-to-door on Dec. 1, or be prepared with a non-perishable donation when a Palouse Cares volunteer knocks on their door.     The Teapot Cafe closed last week, leaving another vacant storefront on Main Street LaCrosse. Townsfolk, though, don’t intend to leave it empty for long. Cheri and Steven Garrett closed the doors on the restaurant they have operated for more than the past decade due to personal health problems.     Eddy’s Chinese and American Restaurant on south Main Street in Colfax opened its doors last Friday after being closed for more than a week after it became an accident victim. The restaurant was forced to shut its doors Nov. 8 after two vehicles smashed into the front corner of the building, destroying two big windows and a wall on the north side and the main entry door on Main Street.
