  • County budget 2017 at deficit of $86,000

    The county has started work on its 2017 budgeting process. The commissioners and administrator Gary Petrovich have met with department heads to attempt to set the budget, and it is now moving to the review process. “There are some things I think the commissioners want to sort out,” said Petrovich.   • Steptoe Butte: Road closes again for WSP comm unit

    The Washington State Department of Transportation, at the request of the state parks department, has completed a paving project at Steptoe Butte to make way for another project set to resume soon.     LaCrosse is gearing up for another café opening. Following the closure of Hazel’s Place Aug. 1, the LaCrosse Café is slated for re-opening Oct. 4 by Darlene Kates, Julie Roberts and Soni Broeckel. Kates and Roberts previously operated the Dusty Café from 1988-2005.   • Burglars hit west county

    Six burglaries were reported in the early morning hours Saturday with three of them in Endicott, one in St. John and two in Lamont. Three of the burglaries were in churches. Deputies also learned that another church was burglarized in Sprague. All the burglaries were forced entries into buildings. A television, keyboard, computer and other electronic items were taken from the victims.
