    USDA’s Risk Management Agency harvest price for 2010 crop insurance coverage is $6.29, the agency announced earlier this month. For barley under the Income Protection plan, the price was set at $3.30 per bushel. Under the Revenue Assurance Plan, feed barley was set at $3.36 per bushel. The price is an important number because it is used to calculate revenue for farmers enrolled in Crop Revenue Coverage, Income Protection or a Revenue Assurance Plan.   • Miller launches art series

    Renown quilter, author and teacher Margaret Miller of Bremerton drew a large crowd to the Colfax Library for the kickoff season of the Meet the Artist series. Miller, whose books contain patterns of her unique quilt designs, described her techniques and shared many samples of her work. This event was co-sponsored by the Colfax Arts Council and the Friends of Whitman County Library. Miller’s books are available for checkout at the library.... Full story

  • PCT will present ‘Marvin’s Room’

    Pullman Civic Theatre’s next production, Marvin’s Room, a dark-comedy about the antics of an estranged family coming together with the discovery of a family member’s terminal illness, will run Oct. 8, 9, 14, 15, 16 at 7:30 p.m. with matinees Oct. 10 and 17 at 2 p.m. The production will be at PCT’s Nye Street Theatre. Ticket prices are evening performances $12 advance, $15 at the door and matinees are $10 advance, $12 at the door.     Pataha Flour Mills, near Pomeroy, will have its Welcome to Autumn Pataha Valley Praise Gathering Saturday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m. Featured will be favorite songs of fall along with familiar Gospel songs and community singing.   • Walter appeal headed for civil service hearing

    The appeal of Ralph Walter appears to be headed for a full hearing after the Colfax Civil Service commission last Thursday Sept. 9 declined to rule on alleged due process mistakes when he was fired July 2. However, Leslie Cloaninger, chair of the civil service board, said the commission will reserve a decision on the due process argument until the full hearing is conducted.
