  • Volleyball team to host Dig for Pink

    Colfax volleyball team will host a “Dig for Pink” observance next Tuesday when they host Lakeside in a home match. Coach Sue Doering said the observance will be part of a coaches vs. cancer program to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Pink T-shirts, balloons and an extra dollar admission will be part of the observance. The team wants to recognize cancer survivors for an honorary team introduction that night. Women who are cancer survivors are encouraged to notify Doering so they can be recognized on that night....

    After an extended drill Friday in the football jamboree at Ritzville, Colfax Bulldogs will hit the launch button for the season Friday when they head south to face the DeSales Irish. Horses and vintage machinery cut wheat crop Horses and vintage machines again drew fans from all around the Palouse for the Labor Day Threshing Bee which launched the Palouse Empire Fair week at Mockonema.   • Colfax day care’s woes on the mend

    Two weeks into discovering their day care was in violation of 25 state regulations on child care, the Colfax United Methodist Church has crossed off 20 of those violations as corrected. The church congregation has also managed to raise $8,600, just short of the amount needed to right the day care’s ailing finances. The day care, Little Angels Child Care Center, is owned and operated by the church.     After receiving a $100,000 donation from the widow of Raymond Hanson, the plans for Palouse’s community center have altered. For three years, the group behind the center has participated in a series of fundraisers which netted almost $250,000 for a new community building to be built in downtown Palouse.     A 107-page response by Colfax officials to a motion to reinstate Ralph Walter as fire chief was filed with the Colfax Civil Service Commission last Thursday by Spokane Attorney Michael McFarland, Jr. The response contends the city was entitled to a full civil service board hearing on the appeal, which was filed by Walter, and detailed alleged reasons for the dismissal which included morale and safety problems in the department.
