A memorial service for Donald E. Cochrane, 67, Princeton, Idaho, will be Friday, Sept. 1, at 10 a.m. at Grace Community Church in Potlatch with the Rev. Kathy Lee Kramer officiating. Potlatch VFW Post and the United States Navy will provide military honors. A luncheon will follow the service. Mr. Cochrane died Aug. 17, 2017, at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane where he was being treated after an ATV accident near his Princeton home Aug. 11. An open house tour has been scheduled at Pullman Regional Hospital for Friday, Sept. 8. The open house and tour will show the public the most recent remodeling and renovation of the surgical suites at the hospital. The hospital recently underwent a $2.3 million surgery expansion project, which included the addition of a fourth operating room. Technology upgrades were also included and will soon be completed. Tekoa Trails gala slated at Mansion Tekoa Trestle and Trails Association plans a “Gala at Tekoa Mansion” Saturday, Sept. 9, from 6 to 9 p.m. The evening will include live music, gaming tables, silent auction, door prizes, appetizers and beer and wine from the no-host bar. Don Peters and Monica Bartlett were married Sept. 1, 1967, at Westminster Congregational United Church of Christ in Spokane. Don was born and raised in Pasco, and Monica in Tekoa. They met on their first day of college at Washington State University in the fall of 1964. After they both graduated from WSU in February of 1969, they moved to Georgia where Don attended signal officer basic training. Rhonda Anderson of Albion takes a break from tending to the Albion Community Garden. She also volunteers at the food pantry and helps with the summer lunch program. The first time Rhonda Anderson moved to Albion she was in middle school and her family was relocating from the central part of the state. After graduating from Pullman High School in 1970 Rhonda joined the Navy where she served as a yeoman for three years. She then joined the Air National Guard where she served in Air Operations.... The Federal Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and the Opioid Crisis reports approximately 142 Americans are dying every day from the current opioid crisis. In response, Whitman County Library announced the addition of 69 titles to the Overdrive eBook and audiobook collection. Called "Dealing with Addiction,'' the titles were donated by Overdrive and are featured on the main page of its catalog. Photographs by Don Witmer of the grain elevators of Whitman County will be on display in The Center at Colfax Library for the next two months. For the exhibit, Witmer photographed more than 60 sites and nearly every elevator across Whitman County. His photographs describe the continuing evolution as many small elevators are being replaced by large grain transportation and storage facilities. Last February, the European Parliament rejected a tax on robots, but took the first steps to regulate their development and deployment. The legislation also aims to establish liability for the actions of robots including self-driving vehicles. Hurricane Harvey smashed into the Texas Gulf Coast. The predictions were dire. Almost every hurricane computer model predicted the storm would make landfall and then stall out, drenching the coast and Houston in particular. The computers were right, although ‘drenching” is hardly the word for what is happening in Texas. Early on, it was estimated that 11 trillion gallons would fall on Houston. When students from St. John and Endicott suit up for the upcoming sports season, they will be joined by students from LaCrosse. An official sports cooperative was agreed upon between the school districts over the summer months. “It’s underway, with the exception of volleyball,” said LaCrosse Principal Jeff Pietila.
