    The Air It Out Football Academy and Lewis-Clark Valley Loggers college football team are hosting a camp Aug. 15 for quarterbacks and receivers in third through 12th-grade. The one-day camp will be held in Lewiston, Iaho. at Sunset Park, from 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The cost is $45 per player and includes a free T-shirt, along with a meet and greet session from the Loggers.     Members of the Pomeroy swim team flash a nine to celebrate another win of the trophy from the Jerry Cluckey Knights of Columbus swim meet Saturday at Colfax.   • D. Meyer Road, Cottonwood Road vacation hearings slated

    Public hearings are set for Aug. 31 on the proposed vacation of two county roads, the D. Meyer Road west of Chambers and the Cottonwood/Kerns Road south of Sunset. The hearings dates were approved by Whitman County Commissioners at their regular meeting Monday.   • Garfield council approves paying cost of CDL course

    A Garfield Public Works employee will have his Commercial Driver's License training paid for in a deal passed by the city council after some debate. In the July 8 meeting, Mayor Ray McCown advocated that Mark Phillips needed to get a CDL and thus the town should pay for it. Phillips completed the federally mandated 80-hour course last week at a facility in Spokane at a cost of $2,800. He was also paid by the town for his hours during training.     Vanek, Echanove post big leads for new terms Pomeroy's Mary Dye posted a strong lead Tuesday in the first count of Whitman County primary election returns with 2,657 votes for the ninth district representative seat. Othello Democrat Kenneth Caylor had the number-two finish here with 1,604, and Kahlotus Republican Richard Lathim ran a distant third with 685 votes.   • Palouse council okays cash fund for drug buys

    The city of Palouse approved a $500 petty cash fund July 28 to create a police department confidential informant fund. The designation provides money for the Palouse Police Department for use by informants to make controlled buys of drugs from suspects.     Blackened smoke is seen above the hills of South Palouse River Road where a fire was sparked around 3:30 Friday.
