    COLFAX - Motions to suppress and dismiss have been made by two of the seven individuals booked May 17 for drug use in an Oakesdale home. Keenen Keller, 26, was charged with possession of controlled substances of methamphetamine and heroin. His attorney has filed a motion to dismiss, stating that Keller called 911 to receive emergency help for another man who had overdosed. According to RCW, a person acting in good faith who seeks medical assistance for someone experience a drug-related overdose shall not be charges or prosecuted for possession...

  • No Memorial Service at Colfax Cemetery

    COLFAX - The Memorial Day service conducted annually at the Colfax Cemetery has been canceled this year due to the limit on gatherings. Even though there will be no gathering, the sights will still be the same. The American flags were posted in windy conditions this morning by a group of 20 volunteers. Eight new flags were posted, making the total 286 flags. The flags will be in place until Tuesday. Regular social distancing rules apply for those visiting the cemetery....

  • Colfax FFA Plant Sale sells out

    The Colfax FFA Plant started and ended on Thursday, May 7. The sale started at 9 a.m. and plants were mostly out of stock by 10:30 a.m. The last customer was served by noon. With selling out in just under a couple of hours the scheduled May 8 and 9 sale dates were canceled. “Our plants are 100 percent sold out.     COLFAX - The hearing set for May 18 morning on the injunction filed May 11 by Kevin Akesson of Steptoe against Gov. Jay Inslee was stricken when the defense had the case moved to federal United States District Court. The notice of withdrawal was filed May 15 on the basis the case includes federal claims. Akesson filed another injunction May 15 in Whitman County Superior Court....

  • Retzer honored, marks 30th year

    COLFAX - May 7 marks 30 years for Mayor Jim Retzer as a trooper with the Washington State Patrol. This comes just two days after Retzer was announced as the recipient of the Chief Will Bachofner Award which is the Trooper of the Year award. "I'm pretty honored to be put in and selected for that," Retzer said. The announcement was by the WSP Chief John R. Batiste via a virtual live stream from his office May 5.     COLFAX-Ninth District legislators have sent a letter to Gov. Jay Inslee to request he add Whitman County to the list of counties that may see a variance and reopen sooner than the rest of the state.
