Girls basketball opens season
PALOUSE — The Colton Wildcats girls basketball team lost an away game against the Garfield-Palouse (Gar-Pal) Vikings, 67-8, on Friday, Dec. 6.
Gar-Pal took an early lead in the game and the defense held strong. At the end of the first quarter, the Vikings led, 16-2, and built a 38-7 advantage by halftime.
Colton gained a point in the third quarter, but that was all the Wildcats could muster for the rest of the game. Gar-Pal scored 17 points in the third and 12 in the fourth quarter.
Wildcats junior guard Rori Weber led her team with five points on a 3-pointer and a 2-point field goal. Junior guard Leah Musson scored the remaining three points for the Wildcats by sinking 3-for-4 free throws.
Colton moved to 0-2 on the season. The team’s next matchup will be at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, against the Tekoa-Rosalia Timberwolves in Tekoa. The Wildcats will then return home the next day for a game against the Waitsburg Cardinals at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14.
