Jean F. Andersen, 89, of St. John, Wash., passed away August 2, 2024, at her St. John home.
Jean was born November 6, 1934, in Elk City, Ore., to Asa & Verla (Young) Smith. She grew up near Newport, Ore., where she attended school. Jean married Floyd Beddingfield on April 15, 1949. They made their home in Harlan, OR having five children where he was a logger. She was a mom and homemaker, staying busy raising the family. Jean and Floyd would later divorce.
Jean married Walter Sonsteng October 17, 1957, and her family added two children. The family came to St. John, Wash., in 1968 to be closer to family. Jean drove school bus, worked at nursing homes and many other jobs. Jean and Walter divorced following 25 years of marriage. She then married Jerry Andersen in St. John where they continued to reside.
Jean enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, going with her children's sports events, square dancing and loved to go fishing. She was a member of the Winona Grange.
Jean is survived by her children Floyd Beddingfield, Sarah Dunigan, Archie Beddingfield, Sandra Shepherd, Samuel Beddingfield and Kathi Gibson; one sister Helen Corwin; and her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry, a son Frederick Sonsteng, three sisters Gloria, Betty and Edna, and a brother Asa.
The memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at the St. John Methodist Church at 1 p.m. Jean will be laid to rest at the St. John Cemetery and a reception will follow at the church.
