Sandberg leads race for Whitman County Superior Court Judge

Colfax — Roger Sandberg leads in the Whitman County Primary Election for Superior Court Judge as of press time, Aug. 6.

Sandberg is leading with a vote count of 4,182 out of a total of 7,661 votes counted, 54.49%.

“I am very happy with the results and I look forward to finishing strong,” Sandberg said. “Got three more months to go. I feel very good, very happy, tonight is a good night.”

“I really appreciate the people who took the time to vote. Got to keep doing it,” Sandberg said. “I thank everybody who took the time to cast a ballot. I know this isn’t over and I’m going to look forward to the next three months. I look forward to meeting more people in Whitman County.”

Jenna Brozik currently has the second most votes, with 2,371 votes counted, 30.95%.

“I’m delighted to get through the primary,” Brozik said. “My job is to communicate with what happens in Superior Court, and the current state of Superior Court. What I can do to make it better and improve it.”

“The most important difference between my opponent and I, is that he is running on endorsements and people he knows,” Brozik said. “I have a new perspective to give to the people of Whitman County.”

Martonick has 1,094 votes so far, at 14.28%.

“My congratulations to Roger Sandberg, and I fully support him,” said Steve Martonick.

14 votes were write-ins coming to 0.18% of votes counted.

The position is open after Whitman County Superior Court Judge Gary Libey announced he would not seek re-election after his 2024 term expires.

Libey has served as Whitman County Superior Court Judge since January 2017. Before serving as judge, Libey practiced law in Whitman County for 40 years.

The certification date for the Primary Election is Aug. 20, 2024, with 300 received votes left to count, as of press time.

A total of 7,661 were counted, as of Aug. 8.

The next ballot count will be on Aug. 9 at 8 p.m.

Whitman County has 22,844 registered voters, with a voter turnout of 34.95% for the Primary Election.

The top two candidates will move onto the General Election on Nov. 5, to determine who will replace Judge Gary Libey as Whitman County Superior Court Judge.

Ballots for the General Election will be mailed out Oct. 18.
