The field fire burns near Thornton, Wash., Thursday, Aug. 1.
THORNTON - Volunteer Fire Departments of north Whitman County contained a fire that broke out near Elmer Huntley Road on Thursday, Aug. 1.
Rosalia Fire District Chief Laura Lautenschlager said that the fire started at approximately 5:30 p.m.
Volunteers from from Steptoe District 11 and St. John District 2 assisted in containing the fire.
The approximately 25 acre fire was also contained with help from local farmers who helped plow around the flames.
The fire burned mostly stubble and some standing grain, Lautenschlager confirmed.
