Joyce Eileen (Boyd) Main

Sept. 1, 1937 - May 20, 2024

Joyce Eileen (Boyd) Main was born at home outside Pullman, Wash., to Frank Boyd and Bernice (Linehan) Boyd Eckhart, in a house across the road from the airport, on September 1st, 1937. She was soon joined by two rambunctious brothers, first Johnnie then Jim, and spent the rest of their lives trying to wrangle them in and loving them dearly. She had a hard working but happy childhood on the Boyd and Linehan farms, helping cook for the farmhands. She loved running around with her cousins and once, at 15, took a car for a joyride with a cousin on the airport runway.

She married Byron Cook in 1954 at age 16 and they welcomed three children: Debbie, Diane, and Dale. They made a home in Pullman and though the marriage didn't last, her children all have great memories of living there and going on many adventures with their Auntie Dee and cousins.

After her divorce, she met Kenny Main in Potlatch, Idaho, despite her father telling her to never go there. They married in 1965 and welcomed son, Darryl (Deac) a year later. It was a blended family with Kenny already having two children, Tommie and Mark, and Joyce loved them like her own.

Joyce was a hardworking wife and mother who wore many hats throughout her life, waitressing, bartending, driving grain truck right alongside her husband and still have meals ready when needed. She always wanted to be a nurse, later working at Avalon Nursing home.

Joyce (or Mama Joyce/Grandma Joyce/Aunt Joyce, whatever you called her) was well known for welcoming everyone to her table and not letting you leave without being full of food or coffee. She loved good conversation and being surrounded by family and friends right up to the end. She worked hard, played hard, and loved even harder. You'd never catch her complaining, or asking for things for herself, and would rather go without than see someone want for anything.

She finally decided to rest on May 20th, 2024, at Pullman Regional Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Main, daughter Deborah Hill, son Mark Main, brothers John Boyd and Jim Boyd, Parents Frank Boyd and Bernice Eckhart, and two grandbabies. She is survived by her daughters Diane Main, Tommie (Bill) Dawdy, sons Dale Cook, Darryl Deac Main, son-in-law Brad Hill, 10 grandchildren, a gaggle of great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews that were all very loved.

A funeral will be held Friday, June 7th, at 2 p.m. at the Palouse Federated Church. A reception will follow at her daughter Diane's house. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either the Northwest Cancer Foundation of Hope, P.O. BOX 8632, Moscow, ID 83843 or the Palouse Lions Club, P.O. Box 68, Palouse, WA. 99161.
