Six Colfax seniors sign letters of intent for collegiate sports

COLFAX — Colfax High School held their senior signing ceremony Wednesday, May 17 in the Colfax gymnasium.

Of the seniors who signed for collegiate activities, six of them signed letters to compete for the universities sports programs.

These six students will take the next step towards an education, as well as competing at the next-level of sport.

Tess Lewis has signed to attend West Texas A&M University, and will compete and participate for their Ranch Horse Team. The Ranch Horse team represents the agricultural program both inside and outside the arena. The team, since 2012, has promoted horsemanship skills through collegiate ranch horse shows. Some organizations the program is a part of are: Stock Horse of Texas (SHTX), the National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRCHA), and the National Intercollegiate Ranch and Stock Horse Association (NIRSHA). Members are required to show rein work, cow work, and show in ranch trail and pleasure.

In 2023 West Texas A&M University were NIRSHA Collegiate Division I Reserve National Champions.

Caden Marker and Trace Hennigar signed at Walla Walla Community College to compete for their Rodeo team. Their competitions will take place using a variety of different techniques throughout the course of the events. They will be competing in: tie-down, breakaway, breakaway re-draw, steer wrestling, goat tying, team roping, and barrel racing. They also put on fundraisers and events throughout the season.

Braden Plummer is signed to Blue Mountain Community College to compete for their baseball team.

The Timber wolves finished this past season with an overall record of 19-27 and a conference record of 9-19.

Over the years, the Timber Wolves have been highly successful at moving baseball athletes on to four-year universities after playing at Blue Mountain for a year or two.

J.D. Peterson has signed to play baseball at Spokane Falls Community College. This past season, Spokane Falls had a record of 30-16, including a conference record of 23-5, putting them first in their eastern side of their conference. Peterson should slide in to their lineup, and help them out for the spring 2024 season.

Jaisha Gibb signed to play basketball for the Walla Walla Community College women’s basketball team. This past season, Walla Walla finished with an overall record of 22-8, with an 11-5 conference record, putting them second in the east conference in the Northwest Athletic Conference.

Gibb was a part of the 2022-23 women’s basketball team at Colfax who won the 2B state championship. She will be missed with the Bulldogs, but will be an important piece in Walla Walla for the Warriors.
