Port of Whitman awarded $1.1 Million to grow broadband Services

COLFAX — Port of Whitman was one of 16 Counties awarded funds from The Washington State Broadband Office.

The Port of Whitman was awarded $1,135,475 for the Port of Whitman FTTx Project to build fiber infrastructure for approximately 104 homes on the outskirts of Palouse, Garfield, Oakesdale, Tekoa, and Rosalia.

The project expands on the recent five-city partnership between the Port and Ziply Fiber to build fiber internet in Whitman County. The grant award will bring fiber infrastructure to homes not included in the first phase due to a prohibitive cost-per-home.
